Mid-Missouri TU Members Return to Spring Creek After 35 Years

In April of 2021, members of Mid Missouri Trout Unlimited participated in a clean up project. This included repainting a sign, cleaning out trash and debris from Spring Creek, and enjoying beverages and a hot meal prepared by Bill to reward our efforts. This marked a special event that brought back memories for many of our long time members.

Thirty-five years after the original stream improvement project, members of the Mid-Missouri Chapter of Trout Unlimited returned to Spring Creek in South Central Missouri for a work-day. Members removed trash from two miles of stream and renovated the sign that commemorated the original project, a stream improvement collaboration among MMTU, the Roubidoux Fly Fishers, and the U.S. Forest Service. The original project involved removal of fences, planting trees to shade the stream corridor and bank stabilization. The stream responded well to the work from many years ago and has a thriving population of wild rainbows.

Trees in the background of the photo above were among those planted in 1986. The stream corridor at that time was bare pasture. Four members who attended the April 2021 cleanup had participated in the original project. They moved a little slower, but were no less enthusiastic!
