Mid MO TU Newsletter July 2024

President’s Message:

Dear Mid-Missouri Trout Unlimited Members,

Our president is traveling, so I am ghost writing a message. Our last newsletter asked about someone to reserve the triple campsite in the Bear Lake Campground (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mbr/recarea/?recid=23030) in the Medicine Bow - Routt National forest 11 miles from Yampa, Colorado. Doug volunteered to reserve it for us and whoever stays there will reimburse Doug. Doug also volunteered to keep a list of who is participating. Everything is very informal and it is not limited to TU members. Please email Doug , douggrove@yahoo.com, if you are going so he can notify you if there are any major updates.

The next local meeting will be September 3. (Ficklin Shelter, Beth Park).

Jeff

Driftboat fishing tips:

Watch Far Bank Fly Fishing School’s Simon Gawesworth walk through how to more effectively fish from a drift boat. He goes over tackle, casting requirements, fishing from the front or the back and even how to row a drift boat. https://www.tu.org/magazine/fishing/tip-fishing-from-a-drift-boat/?\\utm_source=informz&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=none&_zs=hW5wb&_zl=8LK94

A conservation question to ponder:

Kirk Deeter fished private water in England and learned anglers are required to stop after catching and releasing 8 fish. https://www.tu.org/magazine/fishing/the-true-cast/the-true-cast-is-eight-enough/?utm_source=informz&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=none&_zs=hW5wb&_zl=Teo84 Many of us would not like to stop after 8 fish, but such a policy could help sustain wild populations.

A feather business:

Phil Wilson sent this this information about a 7 generation family business. What began as a side business in a family’s basement more than seven decades ago has today become one of the largest U.S. suppliers of wholesale and retail feathers and feather products. Based in California, Mo., Zucker Feather Products and its sister companies furnish feathers for seemingly every facet of life—from function to fashion. Led by the third-generation owners Abby Arauz-Chase and her brother, Anthony Arauz, the business has 70 employees at locations in three states providing feathers that grace everything from the Broadway stages of New York City all the way to Hollywood.

Driftless notes from Dan Zekor:

Dan has been a TU member for a while and I got a chance to meet him and chat a bit at the hotdog burn. He sent a link to piece about a recent trip to WI Driftless when he fished with Duke Welter. https://www.danzekoroutdoors.com/post/driftless-recollections

Thanks Dan for this interesting story!

Everyone, Keep sending me information to share with our chapter and enjoying fishing,
