Mid-MO TU Newsletter August 2024

Presidents Message:

Dear Mid-Missouri Trout Unlimited Members,

Our summer break is almost over and the next chapter meeting will be on September 3.  The meeting will be held at the Fickling Shelter at Bethel Como Park. The address is 4500 Bethel Street Columbia. For more information about this venue and directions go to the following link: https://www.como.gov/contacts/j-w-ficklin-shelter/. Our meetings start with a social hour beginning at 6:00 PM, followed by a short business meeting and a presentation.

This month's presentation will be given by Jeff Thiele and will be on the interesting topic of how to use shrink tubing to make “factory loops” in fly line, how to repair nicks and cuts in fly line, how to splice fly line and how to recycle old line into custom tapers and shooting heads. It would be very helpful if attendees could donate old fly line for Jeff to use in his demo. In fact if you are not going to be able to attend the meeting and have some fly line to donate please contact me and I will see if we can find a way to get it to the meeting.

We had a bunch of members and friends meet in the Routt National Forest in the Colorado Flattop Wilderness in mid-August. The nearest town is the relatively small ranching town of Yampa Colorado. Many fish were caught and I believe all but one returned to fight another day. I think a good time was had by all. This area has many different types of habitats and I think they were all fished by someone. We will have a presentation on the trip at a future meeting, most likely the October meeting.

Hope to see you at the next Chapter meeting and please bring your old fly lines to donate for the next meeting.

Fishing Small Streams can be very rewarding:

If you are not out to catch the biggest fish or the most fish, try a small remote stream. It may be very peaceful and an opportunity to get away from the crowds. https://www.tu.org/magazine/fishing/the-true-cast-small-water/?utm_source=informz&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=none&_zs=hW5wb&_zl=QPTC4

Everyone, Keep sending me information to share with our chapter and enjoying fishing,
