Mid Missouri Trout Unlimited Driftless Trip 2022

Writer's picture: Travis FiggTravis Figg

This June, several members of the Mid-Missouri Trout Unlimited Chapter 493 took a road trip to the Driftless area of Wisconsin. We camped at Jerome’s Campground near Montfort Wisconsin.

We were able to set up our tents just a few feet away from the stream!

Each night, several of us sat around campfires, told fish tales and white lies, and watched beautiful sunsets.

Some members of our Chapter took time out from fishing to work on a stream improvement project near Hornby Hollow Creek. They spent their time (in the pouring down rain) working on stream bank stabilization and planting just over 20 Oak and River Birch Trees.

John "Duke" Welter discussing TU projects in the area

One evening of the trip was spent enjoying steaks and hearing from local TU chapter members. They shared with us recent successes and current projects they're working on to improve and protect the spring creeks in their areas.

Fire Marshall Bill keeping us safe

One evening after it becoming too dark to fish, there was a slight snafu while preparing the evening meal. It’s always great to have someone willing to sacrifice their safety for the good of the group.

Thanks to all who were instrumental in organizing this trip. There've already been discussions about another trip next year, date and location pending.
